Σωτήρης Λιούκρας - Συμμετοχή στην 6η Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης

95 καλλιτέχνες δίνουν ραντεβού στην 6η Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης

Ένα ταξίδι σε τέσσερις ηπείρους και 37 χώρες υπόσχεται στους επισκέπτες της η 6η Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης με θέμα «Φαντασιακές Εστίες / Ιmagined Homes», μέσα από τα έργα των 95 μεμονωμένων καλλιτεχνών και ομάδων, που συμμετέχουν στη φετινή κεντρική έκθεση και το φεστιβάλ περφρόαμνς της διοργάνωσης.
Έναν μήνα πριν την επίσημη έναρξη της κεντρικής έκθεσης, η οποία φέτος γιορτάζει τα δέκα της χρόνια, το Κρατικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης, ως φορέας διοργάνωσης, ανακοινώνει τα ονόματα των συμμετεχόντων καλλιτεχνών που θα παρουσιάσουν τα έργα τους σε τέσσερις χώρους της Θεσσαλονίκης: στην έδρα του Κρατικού Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης στη Μονή Λαζαριστών, στο Κέντρο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης στην Αποθήκη Β1 στο λιμάνι Θεσσαλονίκης, σε χώρους του Μακεδονικού Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης και στην Αγιορειτική Εστία.
Παράλληλα ανακοινώνει και τους καλλιτέχνες που συμμετέχουν στο Φεστιβάλ Περφόρμανς Θεσσαλονίκης, το οποίο εντάσσεται στο κεντρικό πρόγραμμα μαζί με την κεντρική έκθεση, το πρόγραµµα δηµιουργικής διαµονής καλλιτεχνών, το πρόγραμμα δράσεων, εκθέσεις της Κίνησης των 5 Μουσείων Θεσσαλονίκης, κι εκπαιδευτικές δράσεις για παιδιά και ενήλικες. Στο παράλληλο πρόγραµµα εντάσσονται αυτοχρηµατοδοτούµενες εκθέσεις-δράσεις που παρουσιάζονται υπό την αιγίδα της Μπιενάλε.

A journey to four continents and 37 countries is promised to the visitors to the 6th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art under its title "Imagined Homes", through the works of 95 individual artists and groups participating in this year's main exhibition and performance festival.
One month prior to the official opening of the main exhibition of the Biennale, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, the State Museum of Contemporary Art (SMCA), in its capacity as organising body, hereby announces the names of the participating artists who will present their works in four venues in Thessaloniki: at the SMCA’s site at Moni Lazariston, the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki at Warehouse B1, Thessaloniki port, in the premises of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Mount Athos Center.
Additionally, the SMCA announces the artists participating in the Thessaloniki Performance Festival, which forms part of the main program of the Biennale, alongside the artists’ residency program, events, exhibitions by the Movement of the 5 Museums of Thessaloniki, and educational activities for children and adults. The parallel program includes self-funded exhibitions and events that are presented under the auspices of the Biennale.

Η ζωγραφική του Σωτήρη Λιούκρα είναι μια συνεχής αναφορά στη σχέση ανάμεσα στη δημόσια και την ιδιωτική ζωή. Πόσο εμπλέκονται μεταξύ τους αυτοί οι δύο χώροι, πώς βιώνουμε τη μια κατάσταση και πώς την άλλη; Ο καλλιτέχνης σταθερά χειρίζεται το θέμα τόσο του σπιτιού (ή του εργαστηρίου του καλλιτέχνη) όσο και του τι συμβαίνει εκτός και ποιες είναι οι πολιτικές προεκτάσεις του μέσα και του έξω.

Στα έργα της έκθεσης ο άνθρωπος κοιμάται στον προσωπικό του χώρο και κάθε φορά σουρεαλιστικές συνθήκες ή ανακατατάξεις συμβαίνουν γύρω του χωρίς όμως να τον ταράζουν – οι τοίχοι ανοίγουν και μπλέκεται το εσωτερικό με το εξωτερικό, το φως αλλάζει, ενώ εμείς οι θεατές πάντα τον παρατηρούμε από την ίδια οπτική γωνία: από πάνω, από τα κεραμίδια, από την οροφή, αφ’ υψηλού. Η συνθήκη του ύπνου, μια σταθερά σε όλους τους ζώντες οργανισμούς του πλανήτη, προσλαμβάνει έναν συμβολικό τόνο, γίνεται μια εικόνα του πως το σημερινό άτομο προσπαθεί να αποσυνδεθεί από τα γεγονότα γύρω του και να μείνει μόνο του ή ακόμη και το πόσο τελικά, παρά την προσπάθεια απομόνωσής του, οι σκέψεις και τα όνειρα του έχουν πάντα να κάνουν με το «εκεί έξω». Αυτήν ακριβώς την πολυπλοκότητα και την αντιφατικότητα της μοντέρνας μας ύπαρξης προσπαθεί να αποδώσει σε όλη του τη δουλειά ο καλλιτέχνης.

The paintings of Sotiris Lioukras keep returning to the relationship between public and private life. To what extent are the two interwoven, and how do we experience each one? The artist has systematically explored the domestic sphere (sometimes even the artist’s own workshop), what happens outside the home, and also the political extensions of the inside and the outside.

In the works presented in the exhibition a person sleeps in his private space, and remains calm despite the surreal conditions and upheavals that take place all around him – walls open up, entangling the indoor with the outdoor, the light changes, while we, the audience, observe always from the same elevated vantage point: we look down on what is happening, looking from above, from the tiles, from the rooftop. Sleep, a state that is common in all living organisms on Earth, becomes an allegory, an image of how people today try to disconnect from surrounding events, in an attempt to be alone. It is also a comment on whether, despite those efforts at isolation, people’s thoughts and dreams ultimately always revolve around what is happening “out there”.

It is exactly this complexity and contradictory state that the artist has been trying to capture in the entirety of his work.
